
Optional Big Island Tour

Participants in the 1970s Reunion are welcomed to join a special optional Big Island Tour after the Reunion. Space is limited and based on first come first served, so do not hesitate to sign up.
Tour Leaders and Drivers will be Greg Trifonovitch (staff ’68-‘91) and Jeffrey Melrose (OG ’70-’71). Everyone will remember Greg who always has another fascinating story to tell and who represents what the Center is all about – Cultural Interchange! Join Greg and Jeff for a fascinating tour of the Big Island.
Dates: August 28 – 30. Leave Oahu for the Big Island by air on August 28 and return to Oahu on August 30.
Lodging: Two nights (August 28 and 29) at Uncle Billys Hilo Bay, a small hotel in Hilo with the flavor of old Hawaii including plenty of aloha spirit. Everyone is ohana (family) at Uncle Billys.
Schedule: Your days will be filled with visits to Hilo, Puna, volcanic Hot Pond (bring swim suits), Hamakua, the Kilauea Volcano, waterfalls, rain forests, museums, and more. Plenty stuff to keep everyone enthralled with the wonders of Hawaii.
Cost: Total cost per person is $450 which includes round trip airfare, first-day dinner at the Trifonovitch home, two lunches, some entrance fees, ground transportation, and two nights at Uncle Billys (based on double occupancy).
Payment: Payment can be made by check (made payable to "East-West Center") or by credit card.

10:30 arrive Hawaii Volcano National Park (HVNP Headquarters, HVO, Keauhou Bird Conservation Center)
12:30 Bento lunch
3:00 Return to Hilo
4:00 check in to Uncle Billy’s
5:30 Leave for Puna
6:00 Dinner at Bev/Greg’s
Wednesday, 8/29
8:00 Hilo orientation at Kamehameha statue
9:00-12:00 Farmer’s Market, Northwest Islands Museum, Tsunami Museum, stroll downtown (maybe orientation at Connection’s Charter School and/or discussion w/ Hilo kupuna Steamy Chow on Hilo history, shopping etc.)
12:00 Bento lunch
1:00-3:00 Imiloa Astronomy Museum
4:00 back to Uncle Billy’s
Dinner at one or more places in Hilo town (small groups on your own)
